Today we'd like to highlight SSI Employee Rosa. She has been a key member of the SSI Team since she started here over seven years ago. We're all celebrating with Rosa as she recently fulfilled a long-time goal of obtaining her U.S. Citizenship. Below is a transcript of our interview.
SSI: Rosa, how does it feel to have gone through the process and to finally be a U.S. Citizen?
Rosa: This was something that was always on the back of my mind. But, with my household responsibilities and putting the needs of my family first I wasn't able to do it. Thanks to the generosity of some co-workers, I was able to maky my dream come true.
SSI: How long did the process of becoming a citizen take?
Rosa: The process was not too bad. It took about 7 to 8 months.
SSI: I've heard the civics test is brutal, is it as difficult as they say?
Rosa: The test was not too bad. They ask you about 10 questions, but the preparation was hard. You have to learn 100 questions and answers. They do a verbal and written test also.
SSI: Of all the rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, which one do you appreciate most?
Rosa: The right to vote. I think it is very important for Americans to get involved in their community.
SSI: What benefit of U.S. Citizenship are you most happy about?
Rosa: You can vote, bear arms, you can get a passport or get a job with the federal government.
